Unbelievably crunchy, yet smooth, with a Christmas flavour, these vanilla rolls are a must on any Czech Christmas table.
1. Take all of the ingredients out of the fridge so that they gain room temperature.
2. Sieve flour and powdered sugar into a large bowl. Add grounded walnuts, unsalted butter, eggs, vanilla sugar, salt and zest lemon peel.
3. Knead until thoroughly combined.
4. Shape the dough into a ball and cover with a plastic wrap. Chill the dough in the fridge for at least a couple of hours (ideally overnight).
5. Take the dough out of the fridge and let it warm a bit.
6. Roll out the dough (use flour so that it doesn’t stick to the rolling board).
7. To create these crescent cookies, I use a crescent-shaped pastry cutter to cut the crescent cookies from the dough.
8. Place the cookies on a baking tray (covered with a sheet of baking paper).
9. Preheat the oven for 150 degrees.
10. Bake the crescent cookies for about 20 minutes (depending on the size of the crescent cookies) until the edges begin to turn golden. (Taste one piece to make sure they’re done).
11. Take the cookies out of the oven and let the crescent cookies sit for a minute. 12. While they’re still hot, cover them with the sugar-mixture. Let them cool completely on a wire rack.
What a story! 😍 Actually, this recipe is from my great-grandmother who, I think, baked and cooked the most delicious desserts and meals in the world! 😊 She was awesome and did her best learn me how to make her recipes when I was only 8 years old.
Enjoy these Christmas cookies, my family love them too! 🎄
My Italian grandmother used to make these. She was from Calabria. Unfortunately the recipe passed with her. Then you post this.
This is why I wanted to build Saverd. Here you are, a stranger from another country and you post something I thought I would never eat again, even almost forgot about. Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to make them this Christmas and eat them with my family and think of her.
