A classic pound cake that is rich, buttery, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. butter
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon extract

Instructions

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add extracts.

Bake in greased and floured tube pan in a 325° oven (do not preheat) for 1 1/2 hours or longer. Also makes 2 (9x13 inch) sheet cakes.
