Prepare devil's food cake mix as directed on package. Bake batter in 2 greased and floured 9" pans. Remove cake layers from pans and cool on rack. Place one cooled layer on a serving plate. Spread half can of cherries on cake. Top with second layer.
Combine cream, sugar, vanilla and orange rind. Whip until cream is thick and holds its shape. Spread whipped cream on sides and top of cake. Spread half can of cherries on top of whipped cream. Sprinkle with chocolate shaving.
Chill until ready to serve.
