Delicious homemade lasagne with rich meat sauce and layers of cheese.

Recipe from Evelyn Guyant, paternal great aunt.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
2 tbsp lard
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1 12-ounce can tomatoes
2 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregano
1 bay leaf
2 6-ounce cans tomato paste
1 8-ounce package lasagne noodles
12 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Brown meat, add onion and garlic, cook till tender. Add tomatoes, paste, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and bay leaf. Cover and cook slowly 1 hour. Remove bay leaf.

Cook 6 noodles until tender. Layer 3 noodles, meat sauce, and cheese, repeat for second layer.

Bake for 30 minutes.

May be made day ahead but will take longer to bake from refrigerator.
